Prom Kings

Prom Prep

Gentlemen, if you haven’t already started your engines, you’d better put prom planning into high gear. Prom may seem far away, but it’s really just around the corner. Plus, the more you do now, the less you’ll have to worry about later. Here are some things to help you get started.

The Budget. Prom is expensive, so you'll need a budget. From dinner to the after prom party, and your tux to her corsage, think about what you are going to drop money on for Prom. Start saving now so you don't have to bum big bucks at the last minute.

The Duds. Since you’re already on your way to a great Prom, it’s time to think about the statement you want to make on the big night. Do you want to wear a tux with tails or are you more of a Hawaiian shirt kind of guy? Whatever suits your fancy – or more importantly, your date's – is fine as long as you coordinate. In fact, have your date help you pick out your duds.

The Date. HELLO! It’s definitely time to start thinking about who you want to take to Prom. If you are already dating someone, then your job is much easier. Still, you should ask your girlfriend in advance. She needs time to find a dress and do all of those other things that females do. If you don't have a significant other, the options are endless. Whatever you decide, don't wait until the last minute!

Who's My Date?

The biggest prom question is: Who should I ask? It's either an easy answer or a major dilemma. Either way, make sure the person on your arm is someone you are comfortable with and can have fun with.

The Girlfriend. If you have a girlfriend, then it's a no-brainer. Take her! But don't assume anything. Be sure to ask her, and ask her early. It takes girls major time to prepare for Prom.

The Ex. Yes, it's possible. If you are on good terms with your ex-girlfriend, then ask her and you can have a great time with no strings attached.

The Chance. Take a chance and ask someone you are interested in dating. You never know, it may the first of many dates.

The Gal Pal. If you aren't seeing someone or haven't recently dated anyone, ask a good friend or someone you hang out with on a regular basis. They may be in the same boat as you.

The Group. The more the merrier. You can never go wrong with going to Prom with a bunch of buddies or group of friends.

The Ideal Ride

Arriving at prom in style is something everyone wants to do. Whether it's the family station wagon or the newest Hummer limo, be proud of your ride. But arriving in style also means arriving safely. After all, if you never get there, no one is going to care about how you were going to get there. No matter what type of transportation the two of you pick, there are a few important things to remember.

Breath Check. No, we're not talking about whether you need a mint. We're talking about making sure not to drink alcohol on Prom night. Take the BuzzFree pledge with your date and stick to it. After all, you're not only responsible for your safety, but also for your date's safety. Drive safe, sober and buckle up!

Limo. The most sought after mode of transportation for the big night. There are lots of limos to choose from and you can look up limo services online to get price quotes. This ride is great for a large group because you can split the cost. Remember to reserve early. Prom season is a very busy time of year for limo services. Actually, it’s peak season.

Family Car. Hey, it may not be the greatest ride around, but it will get you where you need to go, and there's a lot to be said for that. The good news is you aren’t getting charged by the hour. Just be sure that mom and dad are OK with you taking their car out for the night.

Your Car. Even though she sees you in it all of the time it is OK to take it to prom. Just make sure to give it a thorough cleaning before the big night. No trash, no stinky gym shorts or ketchup stains in the passenger seat that could ruin her dress. Make it look so new that she may not even recognize it.

Public Transportation. Depending on where you live, public transportation may be the way to go. If this is the type of transportation you choose, be sure to check schedules and do a practice run before picking up your date.

Taxi. Another option for you and your fair lady. It's cheaper than a limo, and you still don’t have to do the driving. Just be sure to call the cab service shortly before you are ready to leave the dance so your chariot will be waiting.

Every mode of transportation has its pros and cons. Pick the one that is right for you. If you have a date already, you should talk it over with her before making the final decision.

Post Prom Party

Now that you've made the decision to actually remember your Prom night by remaining alcohol- and drug- free, it’s our turn to give you some party pointers to keep your night going strong. After all, you aren’t going to be another alcohol-related statistic. Here are some ideas to ensure that your party will be on the top of the post-prom party list for all of the right reasons.

Fun and Games. Plan group activities. It sounds crazy, but we all secretly love them. Put a new spin on Twister!

Eclectic Invites. Variety makes life spicy. Invite a bunch of different people to your party. This way, everyone will have someone to hang with. And who knows, maybe people will go home having met a new best friend or love interest. Just because it’s Prom night, doesn’t mean it’s too late to make new friends.

Party Pics. As the host, you can’t be everywhere at the same time, but cameras can. Place cheap, single-use cameras all around the party so your buds can take pictures. Remember to get double prints or a picture disk so you can pass them to all of your friends.

Thirst Quenchers. Make sure you have lots of non-alcoholic drinks on hand. And have fun with it; do a tropical theme and serve Nada Coladas. Don’t forget the little umbrellas. They make everything taste so much better.

Music, Music, Music. Good tunes set the stage. If the music keeps people dancing, guests are guaranteed to have a great time and are less likely to jet to another party. No people – no party.

Neighborly Love. Don’t forget to tell your neighbors that you are having a late night party. Hey, even invite them. You're never too old or too young to get your groove on.

Sober Eye for the Drunk Guy. Above all, keep an eye on your partygoers. Make sure they aren’t sneaking off to drink or take drugs. You want to be sure your friends get home in one piece.
